9 LOVING THINGS TO TELL YOURSELF EVERY DAY

I’m not sure I believe in affirmations.

I like the idea, but every time I tried, I always felt like a fraud.

But I do believe in pep-talks. Cos when your inner mean girl rears her ugly head and starts telling you how ugly, stupid and worthless you are, you need a cheerleader in your corner giving you a healthy dose of self-love, esteem and glitter.

That’s why it’s a great idea to tell loving and uplifting things to yourself every morning. And if you need one or two (or more!) reminders throughout the day, that’s totally cool. Go ahead and cheer yourself on.

If you don’t know where to start, here are the 9 things that I tell myself. Every. Single. Day.

1. Today Is Going To Be Awesome!

As soon as you get out of bed, remind yourself that today is a brand new day full of awesome possibilities. Ok, so the traffic was shit and you spilled coffee all over your new blouse.

So what? These are just tiny bumps in the road in your awesome day. If you don’t make a big deal out of them, they won’t get in the way of you enjoying everything else the day has to offer.

Like the beautiful, sunny weather. Your delicious homemade lunch. Your coworker’s funny joke. Today’s what you make it. So make it awesome!

2. I Am Stronger Than I Think I Am

That doesn’t mean you’ll never have bad days. Or bad weeks. Or even bad months. Life isn’t all rainbows and unicorns. There will be tough times ahead.

But you are strong enough to take them. You are strong enough to overcome them. You are strong enough to succeed even when it seems all the odds are stacked against you.

When the bad times comes, you’ll find a strength within you, you never knew you had. You are so much stronger than you think you are.

3. I Am Enough

Smart enough. Funny enough. Kind enough. Pretty enough. You are perfect just the way you are.

You are everything you need to be to overcome all the challenges in your life, have fulfilling relationships with anyone who enters your life, make all your wildest dreams come true and be the happiest person you know.

You are enough. You are SO enough.

4. Everything Will Be Ok

I know, finding yourself single after a 10 year relationship is scary. Quitting your job to pursue your dreams, wondering how the heck you’re going to pay your bills if it doesn’t work out is scary. Confronting the mean girl in your office who’s been making your life hell for the past 6 months is scary.

When you’re going through a tough time, it’s so hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Heck, you can’t even see a glimmer. But, I know this. You’ll make it out of there.

You may not know how or when. You’ll figure that as you go along. Just keep putting one foot forward on the path you’re meant to take. Something wonderful is waiting for you on the other side.

Everything will be ok, kiddo.

5. It’s Ok To Make Mistakes

Mistakes aren’t failures. They’re stepping stones to success. They’re how we learn what doesn’t work – and what does.

Just pick yourself up off the floor, brush the dirt off, and try again.

And, if you’ve hurt someone, just say you’re sorry. Mean it. Make amends. People are more forgiving than you think.

6. What I Do Matters

It’s so easy to think you’re small and insignificant. That what you do, doesn’t matter. But, it does.

Helping your customer choose the best dress for her body type will help her feel more confident. Asking your neighbour how her kids are will make her feel important. Smiling at a random stranger on the street will make her feel less lonely. Calling your mom will make her day. Standing up for want you believe in will inspire others.

Big or small, your actions matter. More than you will ever know.

7. You Look Great!

You don’t have to be taller, have slimmer thighs or whiter teeth.

It’s about your soul. It’s about love. It’s about that light that shines within you.

That’s what makes you beautiful. Just the way you are.

8. You’re Never Alone

Sometimes, it feels like no one ever gets you. Like no one else understands what you’re going through. Or even cares.

But, they do.

Just reach out to someone. It can be your mom. Your best friend. An online community. A perfect stranger. There’s always someone out there who cares enough to help you out, listen to you or lend you a shoulder to cry on.

You’ll see. Just make the first move.
